You heard us gush about Lover's ten year anniversary show earlier this week, and now, we get the lowdown from one half of the designing duo Susien Chong on what went on behind the scenes.
Tell us about the collection, what was your starting point?
We wanted our collection to personify modern femininity, and we saw that as playing with the elements of masculine/feminine. We wanted the girls to be beautiful, but it had to be a seductive, darker beauty. There were two main influences, the Chinese myth of the White Snake and the painting by John William Waterhouse called ?Hylas and the Nymphs?.
What is your favourite piece?
There is nothing more arresting than a beautiful woman clad in a classic white tuxedo suit.
Do your personal favourites translate to what the buyers pick up?
We used to be surprised by what styles sold well, but after 10 years of understanding ?Lover Ladies? - we now have a solid idea of what will be warmly received by buyers and our fans.
Any disasters prepping for this week's show?
Thank goodness no huge fires to put out, we have a really strong team in place and the show team were stealth in their execution!
You (thankfully) came back to Fashion Week this year. Why did you choose to return?
Oh thank you! We wanted to celebrate 10 years of Lover and chose to show again to celebrate that achievement!
Any post-show plans?
To stay in our pyjamas and spend quality time with our cat Potato!
